Ingredients:
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into ½ inch pieces
¾ cup buttermilk, chilled
Directions:
- Sift together first 6 ingredients. Add butter and rub in with fingers until dough resembles coarse meal. Add in buttermilk and mix until dough forms.
- Place dough on floured surface, and knead 8 turns, until smooth.
- Roll out dough to 1 inch thick. Using a 2 inch biscuit cutter or cookie cutter, cut out biscuits.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 450° for 12 minutes, until biscuits are golden brown.
