Ingredients:
1 (16oz.) package phyllo dough
1 pound chopped nuts
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup honey
Directions:
- Butter the bottom and sides of 9 x13 inch baking pan.
- Toss chopped nuts with cinnamon and set aside.
- Roll out phyllo dough and cut stack in half to fit in pan. Cover with dampened clothe to keep from drying out.
- Put 2 sheets of dough in pan and butter generously. Repeat 3 more time.
- Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons of the nut mixture over top. Top nuts with 2 more sheets of phyllo dough. Butter sheets generously and top again with nuts. Repeat. The top layer should have 6 to 8 sheets of dough.
- With a sharp knife, cut baklava into squares. Bake in a 350° oven for 50 minutes, until crispy and golden.
- While baklava is cooking, boil sugar and water until sugar is melted. Add in vanilla and honey. Let simmer for 20 minutes.
- Remove baklava from oven and spoon sauce on top. Let cool.
