Ingredients:

1 (16oz.) package phyllo dough

1 pound chopped nuts

1 cup butter

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

½ cup honey

Directions:

  1. Butter the bottom and sides of 9 x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Toss chopped nuts with cinnamon and set aside.
  3. Roll out phyllo dough and cut stack in half to fit in pan. Cover with dampened clothe to keep from drying out.
  4. Put 2 sheets of dough in pan and butter generously.  Repeat 3 more time.
  5. Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons of the nut mixture over top.  Top nuts with 2 more sheets of phyllo dough.  Butter sheets generously and top again with nuts.  Repeat. The top layer should have 6 to 8 sheets of dough.
  6. With a sharp knife, cut baklava into squares.  Bake in a 350° oven for 50 minutes, until crispy and golden.
  7. While baklava is cooking, boil sugar and water until sugar is melted.  Add in vanilla and honey. Let simmer for 20 minutes.
  8. Remove baklava from oven and spoon sauce on top.  Let cool.
