Devil's Food Maryann Cake

INGREDIENTS
Special Tools: Maryann Cake Pan
  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • ½ Cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1½ Teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ Teaspoon salt
  • 1½ Cups milk
  • ½ Cup shortening
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 Eggs

INSTRUCTIONS
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Spray the pan lightly with Pam or a similar product and set aside.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Add the milk, shortening, and vanilla and beat on low speed until combined.
  • Beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Add the eggs and beat 2 more minutes.
  • Pour into the pan and bake around 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool in pan on rack for 15 minutes. Invert the cake on the rack and cool completely.
  • When cake is completely cool, fill with Mousse, frosting, or fresh fruits. Store in the refrigerator until serving.
